Bangli Regency

Bangli is one of the most enchanting area in Bali. Its cool and misty mountais giving a way to fertile rice terraces and then to shimmering sea on Bali's Eastern shores. Bangli is a home of many high mountain lakes which are become the source of water for many areas in Bali, making this region to be an incredible ecological importance. In Bangli, we can find many communities of Bali Aga, the original inhabitants of Bali, clustered on the slopes of the lushy forested hills. Bangli is also the site for Mount Batur, one of the most spectacular mountains in Bali.

 

Bangli has some of the most traditional communities in Bali, including the Bali Aga village of Trunyan, renowned for its mortuary rituals. Unlike other Balinese who cremate the dead in an elaborated ceremonies, the inhabitants of Trunyan leave the dead bodies above the ground in sacred cemetery. As the sites of one of Bali's famous kingdoms, Bangli has a number of ancient royal sites, including the temple of Pura Kehen, which is located on the north of the laud-back town of Bangli. Bangli is also home for the one of Bali's most important temples, the Pura Batur, an impressive ancient complex, devoted to the Goddess of water, who ensure the rice fields are always irrigated.
